How it works

  1. PDF.js reads text page by page in the browser.
  2. Download plain TXT or Markdown with page headings; the source PDF remains unchanged.

How it helps

Use extract pdf text to complete a focused document task without changing the original file.

Input and output

Supported input. One readable PDF, limited to 5 MB/100 pages on Free, 20 MB/500 pages on Pro, or 50 MB/2,000 pages on Business.

Output. A .txt file with page markers or a .md file with a heading for each page.

What it cannot do yet

  • Image-only scans do not produce reliable text because OCR is not part of this tool.
  • Columns, positioned text, ligatures, fonts, and visual layout may not be reproduced exactly.

Privacy and processing

Text extraction runs locally in your browser. PDFSwipe does not upload the document or require sign-in.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the download empty?

The PDF may be image-only or use unsupported text encoding. Try a text-based export or OCR when available.

Why is reading order different?

PDF text is stored at coordinates, not a guaranteed reading sequence; columns can extract unexpectedly.
